Did You Choose An Asphalt Driveway? Here's How To Make It Last Longer

Blog

If you chose to have an asphalt driveway installed at your home, you want to protect your investment. To do this you need to take proper care of your driveway. Fortunately, there are many things you can do yourself to help you save money. Keep reading for two tips to get you started.

Asphalt Sealing

The most important thing you should do is to put a sealant on the asphalt. You can hire an asphalt sealing service to do this for you. This would be a good option if you have a long and wide driveway or if you have no experience doing this. In most cases, two coats of seal coat will be put on the driveway.

Sealing the asphalt protects it from the weather elements, such as ice, snow, etc. It also protects the asphalt from cracks, holes, et. The seal coating also prevents water from sinking below the asphalt surface when it rains or when snow or ice melt. Vehicles will have fluid leaks at some point, such as gas and oils. If this happens this can stain or damage the asphalt. If you have a coating on it, you will not have to worry about it.

Clean Asphalt Driveway

Keeping the asphalt driveway clean is also important. This job will be easier for you if you put a seal coat on the driveway. The first thing is to remove debris and dirt by sweeping the driveway. There are wide push brooms to make this job easier. The bristles should be stiff, so it loosens stuck-on dirt and debris.

When you finish sweeping the driveway you can use a pressure washer to clean it. If you do not have a pressure washer, you can rent one from a home improvement store. This will make it much easier and faster to get your driveway clean. Purchase detergent made for asphalt and put it in the pressure washer. Spray the detergent on the driveway. Let it soak for a few minutes and then use the pressure washer over the driveway again to further clean it sweeping the wand back and forth as you go. When you finish, use a garden hose to rinse the driveway to remove the cleaner. Cleaning the driveway also helps you see if there is damage that you need to repair, such as small cracks or holes.

Talk with the contractor that installed your driveway for much more information. They can tell you of other ways to keep the driveway in good condition.

Laying The Pavement: Blog Edition

Paving contractors spend all day laying the pavement. We figured that the least we could do was write about it! In other words, we plan on laying the pavement of information. Yes, that sounds a little cheesy, but sometimes it's okay to sound cheesy when talking about something as serious as pavement. We caught your attention, didn't we? Now that we've caught your attention, allow us to share a little more about this blog. It will feature articles about paving and pavement contractors, and we plan on providing a lot of different information and perspectives as we go. You're welcome to join us!
